Duties

 

  • Create, update, check and after approval register and issue all technical drawings in the drawing office section in accordance with the relevant Configuration Management and drafting standards and procedures.
  • Ensure that all technical drawings electronic data are filed and maintained in the agreed upon system on the network (teamcentre express).
  • Liaise with Engineers, Specialists, Project Managers and the Client or Originator to ensure that the proposed design is in compliance with the contract or originator’s specified request.
  • Liaise with possible suppliers of material, equipment and fabrication to ensure manufacturability of the design and that the specified equipment and material is available and of the required quality.
  • Ensure frequent design review meetings during the design phase.
  • Implement and maintain the technical drawing changes as per approved change proposals.
  • Implement and maintain the drawing standard based on the BS 8888 standard as well as internal Draughting procedures.
  • Responsible for general administrative functions within the design office.
  • Use standardization to reduce costs.
  • Maintaining the site layout plan including all utilities generating layout plans and schematics for all equipment relocations.

Mechanical Design Technician (2007 - 2011)

  • Design lifting frames and lifting mechanisms from the concept phase with calculations involved to manufacturing.
  • Design alterations for manufacturing and construction in a reactor, reactor plant & the Reactor pool this entails conveyors, pumps, pump alignments, electrical motor stands, frames, Railings, Stanchions and Sheet metal designs etc.
  • Adhere to the requirements of quality management system (ISO 9001).
  • Apply innovative applications of 3-D modelling and other drawing office CAD design software’s.
  • Attend to all conceptual designs, basic designs, detail designs, manufacturing drawings, revisions as required.
  • Prepare conceptual designs and system layout drawings and expand into detail plans and drawings.
  • Effective use of engineering standards, principles and practices for the discipline for planning design and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Create arrangements, assemblies, layouts, sections, elevations and detailing accurately.
  • Measuring on existing plants, planning proper fitting of the design and the operation.
  • Prepare ‘as built design’ for civil structural and mechanical designs.
  • Assist with the development of design prototypes and the production process.
  • Prepare design calculation and feasibility studies.
  • Registering of new projects and drawing numbers.
  • Printing, scanning and controlling of drawings and documents to Teamcentre express (Document control software).
  • In-service training of juniors to find and use reference books in referencing Design Code standards and statutory or general design detail pertaining to the particular Engineering discipline while applying the relevant standards to the task at hand.
  • Assign and guide the work of more junior draughtsman on particular projects.
  • I independently carry out more conventional projects of a smaller scale.
  • I check for correctness of complicated designs, drawings and layouts, working from input engineering specification, in collaboration with the Chief draughtsman and the responsible Engineer.
  • Check designs ensuring that are technically correct and manufacturable.
  • Ensure that the project deadlines of all participating resources are met.
  • Responsible for reverse engineering of design components.

Experience

  • Experience in the modeling and detail of machines and equipment as well as technical calculations related.
  • Understanding geometric tolerances and welding applications, uses and the symbols.
  • Practical experience in the mechanical environment general.
  • Design office experience.
  • Work in a team of highly experienced engineers, project managers, scientists.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Background sound knowledge of mechanical engineering basics.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with ability to demonstrate judgment and initiative.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and client relationship skills.
  • Creative and advanced design skills.
  • Analytical thinker with good reasoning skills.
  •  Ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Ability to work precisely and methodically with minimum supervision.

General Office Support

  • Ensure that all documentations are kept in a safe secure environment; Responsible for managing the office vehicles this includes checking if vehicles are due for inspection, service and filling of fuel etc.
  • Leader in based behavioural safety (BBS) in the office & NECSA on site.

 Basic Management

  • Prepare Projects & Project files to Quality Management Standard ISO 9001.
  • I ensure compliance with statutory requirements referencing to OHSAS 18001.

 


Government - Civil Service : Mechanical engineering technician From 2002-01 To Current
Duties

 

 

  • Fault finding, maintaining, servicing & repairing of municipality machines and equipment this is referred to heavy duty machines like front loader, dozers, graders, dampers etc.
  • Detail maintenance on delivery pumps, water jets, motors, water gates for the city water supply and cleansing department.
  • Conduct inspection on all the machines in place and plant on day to day basis,
  • Opening and ensuring job cards are completed as per requisition and closed up when completed.        
  • Working on standby, diagnose problems on machinery involved and equipment, lubricate and test parts for worn out etc.

Experience

  • Understanding benefits of preventative / pro-active maintenance.
  • Ability to read drawings & troubleshooting / shutdown maintenance.
