OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB Design, develop, test, integrate, and improve manufacturing systems and related processes to establish standard productions rates, improve efficiency, increase productivity and decrease costs. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Environment / Safety: Maintain high work and safety standards within area of responsibility. Develop sustainable manufacturing technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimise raw material use and reduce waste. Evaluate current or proposed manufacturing processes or practices for environmental sustainability. Redesign process of manufactured products to minimise raw material use or waste. Delivery: Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards. Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve efficiencies and overall profitability. Develop new processes and streamlining existing processes to ensure maximum efficiencies are achieved in the production facility. Determine root causes of failures and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods. Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials or processes. Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing. Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations. Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures. Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing or six sigma to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness. Investigate or resolve operational problems such as material use variances or bottlenecks. Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements. Prepare reports summarising information or trends related to manufacturing performance. People: Monitor employees work levels and review work performance. Train production personnel in new or existing methods. Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules or other information to facilitate production processes. Maintain a high standard of time management of self and subordinates Cost: Manage and document all projects aimed at achieving Cost Out and Business Excellence targets Report Cost Out, C2V and Capex project financial performances monthly. Estimate costs, production times or staffing requirements for new designs. Analyse the financial impacts or sustainable manufacturing such as by implementing sustainable manufacturing processes or manufacturing sustainable products. Other Features of the Job Travel may be necessary from time to time Call outs and overtime when necessary Knowledge and Skills In-depth knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control and costs for maximising the effective manufacture of goods. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Working knowledge of project planning, design and implementation Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system. Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work and identifying the best people for the job. Ability to monitor and assess performance of self and other individuals to make improvements or take corrective action. Education, Qualifications and Special Training BSc/BEng degree or equivalent (Industrial Engineer / Chemical Engineer/ Process Engineer) Experience 3 – 5 years paper and pulp processing experience 1 – 2 years’ experience in project planning, design and implementation would be advantageous Previous Experience in working to standards e.g. BRC / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 Personality Requirements We are looking for someone who has high aspirations, strives to exceed goals and seeks ways to improve overall performance levels resulting in business success and higher levels of engagement for team members.
