REPORTS TO Managing Director: Plasterboard & Steel
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
Manage and optimise the entire Supply Chain of the Business Unit through:
Strategic sourcing of raw materials (local and import) and the monthly benchmarking of pricing with international and local indexes to ensure that we are paying the right amount for these raw materials.
Planning finished product and raw materials needs
Purchasing raw materials, traded goods, energy, works and services
Warehousing raw material and finished products
Transport of raw material and deliveries to customers
To optimise the cost to serve customers and satisfy all customers in accordance with our service policy.
Manage the distribution network of the Business Unit through the optimisation of the regions to satisfy customers in accordance with sales orders and policies.
KEY FUNCTIONS
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
CENTRAL PLANNING
Constantly look to optimise all facets of the supply chain to add value to our customers whilst minimising the cost to serve.
Based on order books, forecast and projects plan in accordance production and purchasing to satisfy the demand on time and in full.
Manage the Supply Chain matters at Sales and Operations meetings of the BU.
Direct or coordinate production, warehousing, distribution, stock on hand , and forecasting activities to limit costs and improve accuracy , customer service and safety compliance.
Examine existing procedures or opportunities for streamlining activities to meet product distribution needs.
Analyse inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste or optimise customer service
Manage activities related to strategic or tactical planning, material requirements and inventory control
WAREHOUSING
Direct the movement, storage and processing of inventory.
Determine a sustainable vision and relative strategic overview for the efficient, cost-effective management of inventory levels and movement.
Ensure such strategies are applied and complied with at all sites (plants, branches) throughout the B.U.
Ensure on-site efficiency of material flow / handling (management) from receiving through to end user.
Optimize storage costs and minimize product losses for the BU.
TRANSPORT
Coordinate and manage the transport activities of the BU in accordance with Company Plasterboard & Steel policies (Safety, transport, service to customers, etc…) to guarantee on time and in full deliveries to customers, and warehouses at an optimum cost.
Manage contractors and suppliers for all transport activities within
the BU.
Optimize the route to customers and warehouses to minimize the cost to serve.
PURCHASING
Enforce and regulate transactional processes in accordance with both Purchasing & Supplier policies to ensure ethical principles are adhered to
Manage the complete integration of Purchasing and Materials Management throughout the Plasterboard & Steel Business Unit.
Conduct formalised tender and procurement processes.
Continual research, identification and selection of alternative suppliers
Supplier contract management and relationship building
Manage the Purchasing Department to achieve the target organisation in developing talent, strategies, procedures and policies to maximise achievement of sourcing cost savings, technical performance objectives and procurement operational efficiency across the Business Unit.
Adopt a culture of continuous improvement in the development of all procurement activity.
Ensure that the Company Plasterboard & Steel CSM policy is effectively implemented across the Plasterboard & Steel Business Unit.
To develop SRM Protocol that delivers the benefits of proper supplier management to the Plasterboard & Steel Business Unit.
Assist in developing B.E.E suppliers and implement strategies to meet defined B.E.E objectives
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Service centre responsibilities relate to execution of orders, delivery thereof (follow up) , customer satisfaction and feedback to the sales and supply chain teams
Providing internal and external customers with real time status of deliveries
Receive & record all customer complaints in register
Direct complaints to respective personnel to handle complaint
DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
Optimise the distribution network nationally across distribution centres to consistently reduce the cost of the network and grow the service to customers.
Develop accurate costing models for various “Localisation” initiatives
Manage the Branch partner network and operations to ensure their full implementation of Company Plasterboard & Steel policies (Safety, transport, customer service).
RELATIONS WITH OTHER FUNCTIONS
Work in close relationship with :
Sales to coordinate actions in the distribution network, anticipate customer needs and projects, ensure customer satisfaction, optimize stock, transport and customer deliveries
Production operation to plan properly production, raw material purchase and deliveries, to anticipate any impact of production shutdown
Safety BU organization to coordinate and manage Safety in the Supply Chain organization
Finance for the follow-up of each Supply Chain department budget and to track the performance of the Supply Chain and distribution network, to optimize free cash flow and cost of inventories.
Information system to optimize stock, planning, purchasing and ordering process
HR for implementation of the HR policies and to deal with HR people management
Transporters and Suppliers
Others Country Supply Chain business units to benchmark and improve
ORGANISATION AND PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT
Manage the Supply Chain and Distribution network Departments to achieve the target organization
Optimise resources (headcount, working processes, resource allocation) to ensure efficiency across the Business Unit
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in SCM or similar preferred
5 -10 Years Supply Chain Management experience
Good communication skills (written & verbal)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Computer Literacy (SAP, MS Office, Advanced Excel )
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES Sound understanding of costing principles i.e. able to manage product cost (overhead recovery postulates); determine cash flows, ROI etc.
Good understanding and awareness of software solutions and their applications.
Strong negotiator, with above average communication skills – both verbal and written.
Knowledge of SCM principles like JIT.
At least 1 yr tertiary study of ‘Mercantile Law’ with extensive experience with the contract of sale for goods, services and capital (turn-key) projects;
Sound knowledge of manufacturing and service markets.
Understanding of forex and S.A exchange regulations.
Understanding of intermodal freight theory and strategic use of such.
Sound knowledge of internal control systems and of good governance, best practices
Intimately connected to value chain principles, segmentation, Total Cost of Ownership etc;
Extensive people and business management experience (minimum 5 years) with sound business acumen
