Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced SMPP Structural Mechanical Piping and Platework Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate must possess a Level 2 Welding Inspector qualification and have a strong background in inspecting dimensional steel fabrication and welding in a workshop environment. The primary responsibility will be to ensure all fabricated components and welds meet stringent quality standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection and Quality Control:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of structural, mechanical, piping, and platework components.
  • Verify dimensions, alignment, and orientation of fabricated steel components.
  • Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds and fabricated structures.

Welding Inspection:

  • Conduct welding inspections in accordance with Level 2 Welding Inspector qualifications.
  • Identify and document welding defects and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Verify welding procedures, qualifications, and performance tests are adhered to.
  • Review and interpret radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant test results.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records and reports.
  • Prepare inspection and non-conformance reports, documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Communicate inspection results and quality issues to relevant stakeholders.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all inspections are performed in compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety within the workshop and inspection processes.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with fabrication teams, quality control personnel, and project managers.
  • Provide guidance and support to welding and fabrication teams to improve quality and compliance.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing input on inspection and quality-related matters.

  • Education: Matric ;relevant technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Certification: Level 2 Welding Inspector qualification is mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in inspecting structural, mechanical, piping, and platework components.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Strong knowledge of welding processes, standards, and inspection techniques.
    • Familiarity with dimensional inspection tools and equipment.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in inspection and documentation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Safety Awareness: Comprehensive understanding of safety standards and practices in a workshop environment.
