Job Purpose:
Responsible for ensuring that all products comply with the requirements of national and international standards. To plan, direct and coordinate the testing of luminaires to ensure maintained compliance with relevant standards. This specifically includes the testing of luminaires used in explosive atmospheres.
Content of the mission:
Product Certification - SABS and CERTEX
Ensure that all new and existing models of products are tested by an accredited test laboratory and that products comply with the requirements of the relevant standards. Retention and maintenance of product certification test records and capturing them on the company's intranet system.
Liaise with the SABS Certification Department and CERTEX regarding the sampling and testing of post-permit samples and the carrying out of external post-permit audits.
Testing of luminaires to specific permit conditions - SABS and CERTEX:
Ensure that luminaires are tested internally in accordance with the requirements of specific permit conditions (SABS and CERTEX certification) to verify compliance with the requirements of relevant specifications.
Liaison with CERTEX with regards to change to design in Ex luminaires as defined in the type test report, ensure updating of the quality system and maintaining a system for categorising updates, authorising of initial approval and changes to relevant drawings, registering and control of drawings, authorising of concessions, informing clients of any applicable special conditions for safe use and any schedules of limitations of luminaires used in explosive atmospheres. Responsible to ensure that all the necessary documentation accompanies the delivery note (IA Certificate, CERTEX certificate, Company's certificate with luminaire serial numbers, luminaire drawing). Ensure that unique serial numbers are applied to all luminaires and that the client acknowledges the receipt of the documents by signing the delivery note.
Conducting general safety tests on luminaires governed by the relevant national and international standards, coordinating the drawing and testing of samples from production/stores to verify compliance with the requirements of standards and formally keeping record of all test results.
Testing of luminaire components
Conducting tests on new components for possible use as substitutes in luminaires. Ensure that all new components comply with relevant national or international standards prior to use in luminaires by obtaining test certificates from the suppliers or by verifying compliance by means of testing the product by an accredited test laboratory.
Responsible for ensuring that all new components in luminaires for use in explosive atmospheres are tested and approved by an accredited test laboratory. Certificates to be retained of all such approved components. Obtain a new revised IA certificate for the luminaire from the test laboratory.
Photometric testing of luminaires
Conduct photometric tests in accordance with international tests methods on prototype luminaires to obtain the optimum photometric performance on luminaires. Do modifications on existing luminaires to improve the photometric performance.
Compile a photometric data file from the luminous intensity results obtained from the test to determine the efficiency, light output ratios, distribution diagram etc. on the luminaire.
Calibration of Equipment
Responsible for the internal calibration of electrical test benches in the factory and laboratory by means of using calibrated measuring devices. Ensure that all other test equipment be calibrated by an accredited laboratory.
Responsible for retaining and maintaining records of all calibration certificates and to ensure that test equipment be calibrated before their expiry dates.
Control of SANS Specifications
Responsible for maintaining a technical library of all relevant SANS specifications and ensuring the availability of the latest editions on the Company's intranet.
Product failures (Customer Claims)
Investigate and analyse the cause of product failures and submit a report to address the failure when requested. Maintaining records of all test reports.
Inspection on assembly lines (Factory)
Conducting visual inspection on luminaires and when relevant complete a non-conformance report and request corrective action to be carried out to address non-conformances.
Quality Inspection Sheets (Incoming Goods)
Compile inspection sheets including component specifications and drawings of materials received from suppliers and capturing them on the Warehouse Management System (WMS)
Training and Technical Support
Training of relevant personnel with regards to testing of luminaires and verifying competence of personnel with test methods and specification requirements.
Provide technical support to Sales personnel, Research/Design department, Applications department, Industrial department and factory foremen.
