Reports To: National Sales and Operations Manager

Team of reportees: 4 Sales Representatives, Branch Cash and Carry and Client Liaison Team

Job Summary:

The Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of 4 sales representatives within the butchery supply channel. The role focuses on driving sales growth, building strong relationships with key customers, and ensuring the successful promotion and distribution of the company's product range, including packaging, butchery requisites, casings, butchery machinery, ingredients, and in-house spice blends. The ideal candidate should have strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in sales management. A deep understanding of the butchery industry will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Develop and execute the regional sales strategy and action plans to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Monitor team performance and implement action plans to drive GP growth.
  • Identify new butchery business opportunities and manage key accounts (e.g., Shoprite, Spar, OBC, Roots).
  • Identify new business opportunities within the butchery and meat processing sector.
  • Ensure sales representatives maintain a strong pipeline of potential clients.

2. Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, coach, and motivate the sales representatives, Branch Cash and Carry and Client Liaison teams to achieve individual and team sales goals.
  • Conduct regular sales meetings, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Set clear KPIs and ensure accountability across the team.
  • Foster a high-performance sales culture within the region.

3. Client Relationship Management & Market Expansion

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with butchers, meat processors, and butchery chain retailers.
  • Work closely with key accounts to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Gather market intelligence on competitors, industry trends, and customer preferences.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities when needed.

4. Operational & Administrative Duties

  • Ensure the sales team adheres to company policies, pricing structures, and discount strategies.
  • Work closely with supply chain and operations teams to ensure efficient order fulfilment.
  • Provide weekly and monthly sales reports to the National Sales and Operations Manager.
  • Manage the sales budget and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ensure accurate records by reps of sales visits, orders, and client interactions through full utilisation of the CRM platform

Key Requirements & Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years of sales experience in the butchery supply industry, with at least 3+ years in a sales leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging, casings, butchery machinery, spices, and ingredients butchery industry will be an advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Leadership & People Management: Ability to lead, coach, and develop a sales team.
  • Sales & Negotiation: Strong ability to close deals and build long-term client relationships.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of the meat processing and butchery supply chain will be a benefit.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze sales data and market trends.
  • Communication and Relationship Building Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Maintaining current and building new relationships is key.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to resolving client issues and operational challenges.
  • Tech-Savvy: Experience with CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the region.
  • Own vehicle

Working Hours: Monday – Thursday 07.00 – 16.00 and Friday 07.00 – 14.30.
