Role Purpose:
- To maintain, service, diagnose, and repair heavy construction machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance, minimal downtime, and compliance with safety standards.
- The incumbent will support construction operations by performing preventative maintenance and attending to breakdowns on-site when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, graders, loaders, dump trucks, cranes).
- Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance according to OEM specifications.
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs efficiently, both in the workshop and on-site.
- Inspect equipment to identify potential mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and testing when required.
- Operate workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting gear safely and correctly.
- Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices or junior mechanics.

Minimum Requirements:
- Red Seal Trade Test Certificate: Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic.
- Minimum of 5 years post-trade experience in repairing and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Valid driver’s license (Code 08/10; Code 14 advantageous).
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings.
- Computer literacy for diagnostics and reporting (advantageous).
- Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and attend breakdowns at remote sites.
