Position Overview:

A leading mining operation is seeking a qualified Mine Manager to take legal accountability and operational leadership of an underground or opencast chrome mining operation. The Mine Manager will ensure production efficiency, safety, environmental compliance, and team development in alignment with strategic goals and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill the legal appointment under Section 3.1(a) of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and ensure full compliance with all statutory requirements.
  • Manage overall mining operations to ensure achievement of production, cost, and quality targets.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor short- and long-term mine plans and schedules.
  • Ensure effective allocation and use of equipment, materials, and labour.
  • Foster a safety-first culture with a focus on zero harm and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Drive continuous improvement in mining practices, technology, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with metallurgical, engineering, HR, geology, and SHEQ departments to ensure integrated operational success.
  • Maintain effective engagement with DMR, organized labour, and local communities.
  • Develop and manage budgets, cost control systems, and production reporting.
  • Lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams across all mining disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Metalliferous Mines) – Mandatory.
  • Blasting Certificate for scheduled mines.
  • Minimum of 10 years' mining experience, with at least 5 years in a Mine Manager or senior production role.
  • Proven experience in chrome or PGM mining environments (underground or opencast).
  • Solid knowledge of MHSA, DMR standards, and mining regulatory compliance.
  • Strong technical understanding of mine planning, scheduling, and equipment utilisation.
  • High-level computer literacy and familiarity with mining software systems (e.g., Deswik, MineRP, etc.).
