The Freight Controller is responsible for managing airfreight and ocean freight clearing, forwarding, and export operations. This role oversees all aspects of pricing, client and agent communication, subcontractor coordination, cargo tracking, and documentation control to ensure efficient, compliant, and profitable freight movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customs clearing and landside movement of import and export cargo.
- Coordinate airfreight and ocean freight shipments from origin to final delivery.
- Handle routing changes, redirections, and special movement requests.
- Track and trace cargo throughout the import and export process, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
- Provide continuous and accurate shipment status updates to clients and stakeholders.
- Control billing processes and monitor shipment profitability.
- Negotiate with carriers and agents to secure competitive and preferential freight rates.
- Manage and control clearing, forwarding, and release documentation (excluding the framing of customs entries).
- Liaise closely with the customs entries team to ensure timeous clearance of cargo.
- Control cargo releases and ensure all required payments are collected prior to release.
- Prepare and manage airfreight and ocean freight estimates and quotations.
