Permanent - Supervisor / Technician - Johannesburg - South Africa

• The position will be based in Gauteng and involve extensive travel across Southern Africa (SADC region). The role combines site supervision and hands-on technical work related to greenhouse and irrigation automation systems. Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable spending significant time on the road and away from home while attending project sites.

Job Description / Duties

• Supervise installation teams and ensure work is completed according to project specifications.
• Manage daily site activities and organise tasks for installation teams and labour.
• Monitor project schedules and ensure installations are completed within agreed timelines.
• Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Conduct quality control checks on installations and ensure high workmanship standards.
• Monitor labour productivity and ensure efficient use of resources on site.
• Enforce health, safety, and housekeeping standards on project sites.
• Communicate with clients regarding installation progress and provide regular updates.
• Supervise third-party contractors and casual labour on project sites.
• Procure project materials and coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
• Manage and maintain company equipment, tools, and spare parts used for installations.
• Travel to client sites across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and other SADC regions as required.

Technical Duties

• Install, maintain, and repair greenhouse automation systems.
• Install, maintain, and repair tunnels, greenhouses, and related structures.
• Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, fertilizer dosing systems, and water treatment equipment.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to irrigation and greenhouse systems.
• Conduct system testing and ensure installations operate correctly.
• Provide training to clients on the use and maintenance of installed systems.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on installed systems.

Job Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
• Technical background in irrigation, plumbing, automation systems, or similar fields.
• Proven hands-on technical experience.
• Advanced computer literacy, especially Microsoft Excel.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to supervise teams and manage work on site.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently and spend time away from home.
• Valid driver’s license (company bakkie provided).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
