This position describes the duties of a Technician/ Fitter primarily required to construct, assemble, install, maintain and service hydraulic systems or components and associated precision and general engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Assemble, install, and service hydraulic components (pumps, cylinders, valves, motors, hoses) to prevent equipment downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctions in high-pressure hydraulic systems using technical manuals and, at times, hydraulic schematics.
- Inspections: Conduct mechanical inspections of production machinery and perform pressure tests to ensure optimal performance.
- Component Assembly: Fit and fabricate hydraulic parts, including hose assemblies and sealing systems, and perform repairs on gearboxes or related pneumatic equipment.
- Certification: A Trade Certificate (Fitter) or equivalent qualification is typically required, often within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret technical hydraulic schematics and blueprints.
- Physical Ability: Physically fit and comfortable working in varied environments, including at heights.
- Skills: Strong analytical fault-finding skills and experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Highly skilled technical and mechanical ability, with proficiency in use of all hand tools, machinery, diagnostic and performance testing equipment associated with hydraulic servicing, manufacture and installation.
- Proven ability in hydraulic system maintenance and condition monitoring.
- Proven ability in overhaul/ recondition / performance testing of hydraulic components including fixed and variable displacement pumps, motors, open and closed loop systems, hydraulic cylinders, hose and pipe assemblies, but not limited to.
- Versatility and a willingness to learn new methods and products to suit changing technology and workshop demands is a requirement.
