Position requires a commercially driven Business Development Manager that will drive strategic growth across FMCG, Mining, Building and Construction sector markets in South Africa and across the Sub-Saharan African Region.

The incumbent will spearhead growth within the transport and logistics business and act as the first point of contact for potential clients and respond to tenders and meet targets by securing new clients for the business.

This role is suited to a dedicated deal-maker who thrives on nurturing and building relationships and driving revenue growth. The incumbent will take full ownership of developing and expanding a client base within the transport and logistics space.

Driving growth and commercial performance within the mining, building and construction and FMCG portfolio in South Africa and across the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Identify and pursue new clients to grow market share through strategic plans. 

Deliver tailored logistics solutions and persuasive sales plans to meet and exceed sales targets. 

Develop and execute strategic business development plans

Research and collate market reports

Provide expertise in assessing the gap between the current state and desired future direction and established effective ways for closing the gap in own area of accountability 

Initiatives that will improve business results 

Provide value added practice improvements, initiatives and services to deliver on organisational objectives 

Drive and participate in forums that positively contribute to functional knowledge improvement 

Provide advice and give input to the service delivery excellence practice optimisation

Lead generation by identifying new markets, clients, industry opportunities, market trends in conjunction with the group business development strategy, scouting and identifying tender opportunities 

Determine feasibility of actual opportunities with reference to the value, profitability, capital investment and the impact on business 

Manage and implement a sales process to achieve annual targets 

Complete tender responses or requests for proposal as well as submission of documentation 

Manage and maintain current contract renewals and RFP or RFQ schedules

Update and maintain annual escalation schedules with existing clients 

Manage escalation formulas and indices to ensure yearly reviews of rate negotiations and comparing financial performance versus budgets 

Identify areas where the organisation can add value to the client by using knowledge and understanding of the clients business

Develop relationships with new and potential clients to continue to build business opportunities 

Build trust and cooperation at all levels within the client organisation 

Conduct risk assessments to identify threats to the current business processes and Services 

Identify new innovative processes and procedures that will provide a competitive advantage 

Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders that contributes to a culture of customer service excellence 

Formulate strategies in conjunction with the client and associated operating companies to meet specific client needs

Desired Experience & Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Transport Economics, Industrial Engineering, Commerce, Supply Chain and Logistics.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Commercial Business Development experience in mining, building and construction and FMCG portfolio in South Africa and across the Sub-Saharan Africa region. 

Strong communication and negotiation skills. 

Confident in cold calling and opening new markets. 

Highly self-motivated, target-driven, and results-focused. 

Ability to operate independently and take ownership of outcomes. 

Computer literate across standard business systems. 

Maintain detailed pipeline reports and present performance updates to senior leadership.

Established industry relationships. 

Sound understanding of taut liner freight for cross-border and national operations.

Sound understanding of side tipper and bulk operations for mining and building and construction •
