Position Summary

  • The Steel Sales & Business Development Manager will play a key role in expanding company's steel business throughout Southern Africa.
  • Will be responsible for new business development, customer relationship management, market intelligence gathering, commercial negotiations, and sales execution across a diverse steel product portfolio.
  • This role requires a commercially minded professional who can quickly identify opportunities, make informed decisions, and turn ideas into tangible business results. The successful candidate must be highly proactive, responsive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced international trading environment while collaborating closely with company headquarters in Korea.

 

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities across Southern Africa.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with distributors, fabricators, manufacturers, service centres, contractors, and end-users.
  • Develop strategic sales plans to achieve volume, revenue, and profitability targets.
  • Conduct regular customer visits, business presentations, and commercial meetings.
  • Expand company International's customer base and market presence across priority industries.
  • Actively manage the sales pipeline and convert opportunities into sustainable business

 

Steel Product Sales & Trading

  • Manage and promote sales activities for a broad range of steel products, including:
  • Hot Rolled Coil (HRC)
  • Cold Rolled Coil (CRC)
  • Steel Plate
  • Wire Rod
  • Beam
  • Long Products
  • Coated Steel Products
  • Stainless Steel Products
  • Automotive Steel Products

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing quotations and commercial proposals.
  • Conducting pricing negotiations.
  • Managing contract execution.
  • Monitoring sales forecasts and product demand.
  • Driving profitable growth across product categories

Customer Relationship & Account Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with existing customers while continuously developing new accounts.
  • Understand customer needs and provide tailored commercial solutions.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and business opportunities.
  • Lead commercial discussions regarding pricing, contracts, payment terms, and supply agreements.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Resolve commercial and operational issues efficiently and professionally.

Market Intelligence & Business Strategy

  • Monitor market trends, customer demand, steel pricing movements, and competitor activities.
  • Analyze market opportunities and identify new growth areas.
  • Track developments relating to safeguard duties, anti-dumping regulations, tariffs, and import policies.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence to management and headquarters.
  • Support strategic decision-making through detailed market analysis and forecasting.
  • Identify commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies

Coordination with Headquarters (Korea)

  • Collaborate closely with company headquarters in Korea on sales strategy, pricing, business planning, and market development initiatives.
  • Coordinate with product managers and trading teams regarding customer requirements, forecasts, and commercial opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit regular sales reports, market intelligence updates, and business forecasts.
  • Act as a key communication bridge between customers, suppliers, logistics partners, and headquarters.
  • Participate in regional and global business review meetings.
  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives driven by headquarters

Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate shipment schedules and vessel bookings.
  • Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers.
  • Monitor delivery performance and ensure smooth execution of customer orders.
  • Support demand planning and supply chain optimization.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of products to customers.

 

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare monthly sales reports, forecasts, budgets, and business plans.
  • Maintain accurate CRM and customer databases.
  • Monitor performance against sales targets and KPIs.
  • Provide timely and accurate business updates to management and headquarters.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and reporting requirement

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in steel sales, steel trading, metal trading, or industrial B2B sales.
  • Proven track record in business development and customer acquisition.
  • Demonstrated success in managing customer relationships and commercial negotiations.
  • Experience within import/export trading environments will be advantageous.
  • Experience working in a multinational company environment is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the African steel market.
  • Knowledge of international steel trading and logistics operations.
  • Familiarity with anti-dumping regulations, safeguard measures, and import regulations.
  • Existing network within the construction, manufacturing, mining, engineering, automotive, or steel distribution sectors.
  • Experience working with Korean companies, steel mills, or international trading organizations
