Role Overview:

The purpose of this role is to nurture early-stage startups and founding teams thereof who are participants of our programmes that are aimed towards sustainable growth and investment readiness. The role involves working with mostly first-time founders and both guiding and building up their business decision-making capabilities applying principles of lean start up.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as first and primary contact for assigned Pathways participating businesses.

Participate in Pathways Selection Panels.

Participate in Pathways alignment sessions. 

Support, review & critique Pathways participating businesses within the assigned portfolio. 

Recommend, align with, and periodically review deliverables for independent experts and Service Providers assigned to Pathways businesses. 

Create and implement simple and systematic processes and frameworks that can be adopted by early stage and growing businesses to drive operational strength and efficiency. 

Critique the operational and organisational capabilities of investee businesses in the Pathways portfolio of the company, and to assist founding teams through the provision of point-in-time practical interventions, tools, and other appropriate support to enhance operational efficiency and reduce operational risk in these ventures. 

Partner with founding teams to trouble shoot specific wasteful, inefficient and risk areas in the businesses. 

Enhance commercial and operational success of early stage and growth helping them to build robustness and sustainability 

Contribute to the improvement of the Search & Pipeline Programmes team in enhancing overall effectiveness of Pathways and other initiatives and participants experience.

Create and /or introduce best practice frameworks that will include continuous review of the operational robustness of investee businesses.

Identify key risks and /or deficiencies and co-creating solutions with the support of the Programmes and Investment team heads

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

Relevant business-related qualification. 

5 years practical experience in start-up development. 

Understanding and/or exposure to the SA investment landscape will be beneficial.

Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products, apps, and services.

Ability to work successfully with young entrepreneurs and build relationships with key service partners and other stakeholders.
